State Government of Delhi has launched Advocate Welfare Scheme in order to provide medical and life insurance coverage of Rs. 5 lakhs to 10 lakhs. Advocates of Delhi will be considered eligible for applying under this scheme. Only those lawyers will be permitted for applying to those who are registered with Delhi Bar Council and in Delhi’s Voter List.

Delhi Advocate Welfare Scheme 2024

Chief Minister Shri. Arvind Kejriwal has launched Delhi Advocate Welfare Scheme for securing the interests of advocates of Delhi. By applying under this scheme, advocates will be able to get life insurance cover of Rs. 10 lakhs. Those lawyers who have already registered under this scheme will not need to apply again, they will just need to update their filled details on the form.

Advocate Welfare Scheme has been launched under the State Government of Delhi for providing medical as well as life insurance cover to the advocates. This scheme is only applicable for the registered advocates in Bar Council of India and enrolled in Delhi’s Voters List. The benefit will be provided after carrying out the verification process by the concerned authorities.

Objectives Of Advocate Welfare Scheme Delhi 2024

One of the foremost objective of launching the Delhi Advocate Welfare Scheme is to provide life insurance to the applicants who are pursuing legal and lawyer as their occupation so that after their death amount of the benefit can be claimed by their family members. For the successful implementation of this scheme, the government has allocated 50 crores of budget.

Other objective of launching the Advocate Welfare Scheme is to provide financial assistance to the family members of the advocates so that they will be able to sustain their life despite having the death of their loved ones. With this amount of benefit, they will be able to transact their day to day activities.

Verification Process

As it is clearly mentioned from the name that this scheme has been specially started for providing life insurance coverage to the advocates of Delhi but the amount of benefit will also be provided after carrying out all the verification procedures by the concerned officials. The verification process will be carried out in the office of the Chief Electoral Office on the Delhi NVSP portal. The enrollment and EPIC number of the advocates will be verified.

Categories of Beneficiaries

Within launching this scheme, the Government of Delhi has also set criteria for the selection of eligible beneficiaries. Only those Advocates will be able to get the amount of life insurance and medical insurance for those who are practising their lawyer profession in Delhi State and also registered in the Bar Council of India and falls under NCR areas of Delhi. Those applicants will also be considered eligible who have enrolled their names in the Delhi Voters List.

Implementation Of Advocate Welfare Scheme

For the successful implementation of this scheme State Government of Delhi has issued a Writ of Mandamus under which insurance policies will have to transfer the amount of insurance to the bank accounts of advocates. Government has also approved a budget of 50 crores for providing benefits to its applicants. About 30 thousand approx advocates will be able to take benefit under this scheme.

Important Guidelines

There are some important guidelines issued for the Government of NCT Delhi by the High Court of Delhi as per follows: –

‌Remaining procedures must be completed within stipulated amount of time.
‌There should be no delay in providing life insurance to the advocates.
‌NIT must be passed within one week after taking biddings from the insurance company.
‌Government of Delhi have to prepare the list of eligible beneficiaries and same should be placed before the High Court.

Advocate Welfare Scheme New Update

A new update has been received regarding the eligibility criteria that those advocates who have registered under BCD despite having registered on the Delhi Voters List will also be considered eligible for applying under this scheme. Eligible Criteria is based on “Place of Practice” not the “Place Of Residence” as per the Bar Council Of India Certificate And Place of Practice (Verification) Rules, 2015.

Rate Of Insurance Policies

For finalizing the rate of insurance policy, a meeting was held between the LIC officials and NIAC officials. Rate of insurance policies as per follows: –

‌ Rs. 10,07,70,894/- for Group Term Life Insurance Policy (28,774 lawyers)
‌Rs. 10,500 for Medi-claim Insurance Policy (29,077 lawyers)

The benefits of this scheme are as follows: –

‌This scheme is specially launched for providing medical insurance to the lawyers/advocates.
‌This scheme is only applicable for the citizens of Delhi so the advocates from the Delhi state will be benefited under Delhi Advocate Welfare Scheme.
‌Advocates will be able to got life insurance coverage of Rs. 10 lakhs.
‌Those advocates who have enrolled under Bar Council of India and in Delhi Voters List will be able to apply for this scheme.

The features of this scheme are as follows: –

‌Advocate Welfare Scheme has been launched under the State Government of Delhi.
