Objectives Of Sarbat Sehat Bima Scheme
The main and primary objective of launching the Punjab Sarbat Sehat Bima Scheme by the CM of Punjab is to provide paperless, cashless Health Treatments to all the residents/citizens of the State of Punjab. It is providing 5 lakh of health insurance to the needy and poor citizens of the state. This scheme has been expanded to all the residents of Punjab.
Other main objective of launching Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana is to empower and encourage citizens of the state to bear some healthcare facilities without having suffered from economic instability and may be able to develop further. State Government has also set a limit of 12,308 crores on the no. of applicants who can apply under this scheme.

Supervision Authority
This scheme will be implemented under the supervision of the Department of Labour and the Department of Civil Supply along with the participation of the Department of Punjab Mandi Board Excise as well as the Taxation Department. Some officials will also be hired for the issuance of Ecards to beneficiaries such as – the Deputy Medical Commissioner, Labour Inspector and Pharmacy Officer.
Approval Of 593 Crores Of Expenditure
For providing free of cost insurance coverage to around 15 lakhs of family groups, the government has approved Rs. 593 Crores of budget so that the amount of benefit will be get available to each eligible beneficiary. Each family group will be provided with 5 lakhs of insurance cover for taking treatment in empanelled private or government hospitals.
Around 39.38 Lakhs Of Families Got Benefit
It will be very surprising for you to know that around 39.38 lakhs of families have been able to get cashless medical treatment under empanelled hospitals under this scheme. There are various categories of beneficiaries who have got benefit as per follows: –
- 14.64 lakhs of families = Socio-economic caste census
- 16.65 lakhs of families = Smart Ration Cardholder Households
- 5.07 lakhs of families = Farmers
- 3.12 lakhs of families = Construction Workers
- 4481 of families = Accredited Journalists
- 33096 of families = Small traders
Increase In The Hospitalization Charges
Rates for getting treatment in any one of the empanelled private or government hospital has been increased by the Government. Now it is charging as Rs. 8000 to Rs. 18000 per day. The previous rate was Rs. 1800 to Rs. 4500. New rates have been fixed by the Central Government. The main reason behind increasing the treatment rate is because of the treatment of Covid-19.
Covid-19 Treatment
Now the citizens of Punjab can also get treatment for Covid-19 by enrolling under any empanelled hospital. For this, they will not need to get any referral from public hospitals. Covid infected patients can also directly visit under any one of the empanelled hospitals for getting their treatment of covid-19 infection.
Duration For Registration
Now the concerned officials have been ordered to enrol and register the eligible applicants under this scheme within a period of 6 months so that they will be soon provided with the amount of benefit of this scheme. After making registration cards, soon e-cards will be issued to them. Only on the basis of this card, they will be able to get treatment.
Provision of Covid-19 Insurance
Government is soon going to provide insurance for covid-19 for the frontline workers. This insurance scheme will be applicable for 90 days after the registration process. Provision Of E-Health Cards
State Government of Punjab has made provision for making and providing E-Health Cards to all the eligible beneficiaries. An order has been given by the Deputy Commissioner to the officials for making E-health Cards to those applicants who have been deprived of healthcare facilities. Working of the E-health Cards facilities will be carried out in 25 service centres of the district.
