The Chief Minister of State Tamilnadu has launched an Illam Thedi Kalvi Scheme under which the volunteers of the school will take online classes on the learning app platform provided by the Government. Only the students of class 1st to 8th can avail their online classes in this learning app. Volunteers will teach the students only for 1 hour in the evening time.
In order to provide education to each student at the doorstep of the school, Tamilnadu has started an initiative with the name Illam Thedi Kalvi. This is a scheme based upon the Pilot Project which will cover about 12 districts of Tamilnadu. This learning platform will fill the learning gap of students which has been arisen due to the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Objectives Of TN Illam Thedi Kalvi Scheme 2024
The foremost objective of launching the Illam Thedi Kalvi Scheme is to make every student tension free for their studies due to the effects of the Coronavirus Pandemic; the education of students suffers a lot. In order to fill this learning gap, a learning app has been provided by the Government only for the students of Tamilnadu. The target of covering about 12 districts of Tamilnadu has been set up by the Government. This scheme is the basis of the Pilot Project.
The other main objective of starting the Tamilnadu Illam Thedi Kalvi Scheme is to provide free online classes facilities to students of class from 1st to 8th at the learning app which will be taken by the volunteers of their school. 1 hour of teaching timing for every evening has been allotted to volunteers. Students will not let it as a burden and compulsion to take classes, rather than they will enjoy it within their intellectual progress.
Illam Thedi Kalvi Scheme New Update
The Chief Minister of Tamilnadu M.K. Stalin has started this initiative as a Pilot Project over the 12 districts of the state. They are soon going to launch Tamilnadu Illam Thedi Kalvi Scheme in Chennai also. An estimate for no. of students who are studying in class 1st to 5th have been observed as 80,374 and 80,424 no. of students in the classes from 6th to 8th.
So the total number of students from class 1st to 8th will be 1, 60,798. In the evening hours, the volunteers will teach them. An estimate of 4,982 numbers of volunteers has been calculated who are going to apply under this scheme in order to take online classes of students. Training has also been given to the persons who have been resourced in Chennai.
Based On Pilot Project
TN Illam Thedi Kalvi Scheme is purely based upon the Pilot Project. This Pilot Project has been initiated by the M.K. Stalin Chief Minister of Tamilnadu in order to prove the practicality of the project idea which has been associated with the name of this scheme. Within the launching of this scheme in Tamilnadu, Government has also made a list of districts that have to cover under this scheme. About 12 districts have been included in this scheme.

Instructors Will Cover Learning Gap Of Education
The Chief Minister of Tamilnadu has launched Illam Thedi Kalvi Scheme with a motive to fill as well as cover the learning gap of studies by the students of class 1st to class 8t due to the spread of Covid-19 Pandemic. By enrolling under this scheme, the volunteers will teach the students so that they will cover their curriculum based on the education syllabus.
The volunteers will teach their students in the online classes through the learning app which has been made available by the Government. They have to spend 1 hour of duration with the students for teaching them. Volunteers will teach in such a way so that their learning gap will get filled and there will be no loss of their study.
Volunteers will take their online classes only after completion of their school hours. The timing from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM has been fixed by the Government for teaching. Online Classes have been made available to the students in such a way that they will be able to complete their remaining portion of the syllabus by gaining some educational skills.
It is not obligatory that only the students of Government schools can enrol under this scheme, both the students of private as well as Government schools can make a registration for availing the benefit of Online Classes. Facilities of online classes have been expanded across 12 districts of the state, now all the district wise students can avail the benefit.
Facilitation Of Online Classes
For the successful implementation of the Tamilnadu Illam Thedi Kalvi Scheme, an amount of 200 crores of disbursement have been spent by the State Government of Tamilnadu. This fund has been allocated from the active participation of Teachers, Volunteers, NGOs and Educationists. Now we can say that education will be provided to each eligible student at their doorstep of the house.
Special Committee As A Supervision Authority
This scheme as a Pilot Project has been launched in 12 districts of the State Tamilnadu. In order to ensure its proper maintenance, supervision as well as coordination a special committee has been hired by the Government. This Special Committee will serve as a vigilance authority for keeping an eye over the activities of the classes that have been carried out in the schools.
In order to ensure the safety of students from sexual harassment, this special committee has been set up. The officials of the Special Committee will ensure the safety of students by monitoring the classes such as who are going to take the classes of students after the completion of school hours.
In order to keep vigilance over the schools’ activities as well as classes which have been carried out after the completion of school hours, the officials of the Special Committee will visit and make inspections on a regular basis. They will get interact directly with the students. Officials will try to gain the confidence of their parents. They will also make awareness among the students.
Implementation Process
For the successful implementation of the Tamilnadu Illam Thedi Kalvi Scheme, various types of committees have been hired by the Tamilnadu’s Government such as- State Level Committee, District level Committee, Block Level Committee, Management Committee and Department of School Education is at the apex.
Successful implementation of this scheme is totally dependent upon the State Level Committee. State Level Committee will inform the District Level and Block Level Committees after the completion of their assignment. Management Committee has been held responsible for preparing the list of eligible volunteers for teaching.
After the preparation of the list, the committee will submit this list to the District Level Committee for their approval and selection. The Department of School Education will be at the apex of the hierarchy who will handle all these committees. This initiative will be run by the School Education Department.

- The applicant (student) who is applying under this scheme must be a permanent citizen of Tamilnadu.
- The applicant must ensure before making registration that he or she is studying in class from 1st/2nd/3rd/4th/5th/6th/7th/8th.
- Medium of Language of the volunteers should be English Tamil.
- Volunteer who is going to take online classes for students, he should ensure that he is themselves teaching in class 1st to 5th.
- Minimum educational qualification required for enrolling as Volunteer must be 12th for teaching students from class 1st to class 5th.
- Those volunteers who are going to take online classes of students from class 6th to class 8th must have graduation level educational qualification.
- The volunteer must spend an hour of 6 in a week.
